I loved this show up until the second half of the 6th season. The characters were great and the plot lines from each season were hilarious and delivered a sense of emergency that kept the show moving. The reason I started to like the show less during the second half of the 6th season and all of the 7th season so far is because of how heavy handed the writing has become. They moved away from the base traits of some characters (Captain Holt, Rosa, and Kevin) and leaned too far into other base traits for some characters (Amy, Jake, and Boyle). The heavy handedness is most exemplified through Amy, in my opinion. The past couple episodes Amy has become simply a nerdy one-dimensional character rather than the complex person with flaws and feeling that was shown in the first 5 seasons. One example being the whole competitive reading she and Captain Holt did. Captain Holt's character was characterized by how closed off and private he is, but through that hard exterior he's a softie, and the first 5 season really exemplified that quality of him. Starting with season 7 he has been one of the most outgoing people in the office. My main argument is that the writing has become far too heavy handed and the charm of these characters is vanishing.
