The story is interesting and rather unique, but the execution is terrible. The main character, Gus, spends a year by himself and develops no maturity after being by himself, and sure he's 10, but you'd expect him to listen to the grown people around him. He has no awareness and in the last episode he says that adopted parents aren't real parents. That's a horrible thing to say and would offend several people.
The story also revolves around the idea that children are the future, but yet the only kids/teenagers who are trying to do good end up being framed as evil without any reason. The villain is boring and plays on the trope of an old man who wants to control everything around him. Realistically, he'd have no power. An additional issue is that nearly everyone in this world is terrible. The apocalypse would of course bring out the worst in people, but also the best in most. The character writing is honestly the weakest part of this show, the best being the filmmaking and costumes. I sincerely hope that Netflix learns to develop characters better than stories, because an interesting story is nothing without interesting characters, which this series attempts to have but fails to write properly. Not looking forward to season 2.
