Normally, watching TV shows can slightly tedious and can be a bit of a bore if you don’t find that one series that really wraps you in and has you up all night watching it. However, I can guarantee that E4’s top tier, binge worthy sitcom, The Inbetweeners, will definitely keep you entertained.
This brilliantly British TV show dives into the lives of 4 socially troubled friends as they grow from their teenage years into adulthood. The show explores the character’s school life, their treacherous teachers, the stereotypical British lad culture and their attempts to persevere relationships. The cast really pulls the whole show together by impressively displaying Damon Beesley’s and Iain Morris’ (the writers) ingenious script in a perfect manner onto the screen. Simon Bird’s portrayal of the character ‘Will’ carries the audience through the ventures of classic British boy group as he voices over they’re escapades, taking them to theme parks, clubs and on camping trips.
Highlights:
The entire show is just one big highlight to be quite honest! It is full of weirdly relatable situations and just pure banter. Every second of all 3 seasons is filled with puns and jokes. It’s not surprising that many think it is the “Best British Show of the Century”, even 12 years after its release. What I would say is the most outstanding part of the whole series is the fabulously formatted script. The script is the foundation of any piece of drama; it is where it all starts. Without a good script the show won’t make any sense. Even though The Inbetweeners is full of craziness and stupidity it is still weirdly relatable as the script is so well written and thought out. The writers brought the whole together in a remarkable way just from the script, pulling in every ounce of conventional British culture there is into the sitcom. Even though the writers nailed the script the cast still deserve a lot of credit aswell as they are the ones who brought the whole show to life.
Negatives:
As TV shows goes, The Inbetweeners is a very explicit show. I would definitely only recommend this to teens and adults as it is certified as a ‘15’. I’m not going to lie but I totally agree with the age rating as, personally, I don’t think anyone under 15 should watch the show. Apart from that, the only issue I have with the show (notice the word only!) is that there are only 3 seasons. It was originally stopped as the producers thought that the cast were growing out of their roles as teenagers, however a year after the show ended ‘The Inbetweeners Movie’ was released. Honestly, I would have just preferred another season rather than a movie!
