After watching the films I was apprehensive to read the books, expecting it to be intense and over the top. Honestly I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy the book so much, reading it in less than 4 days. There is far more the story in the books than the film - focusing more on their emotional journey rather than the BDSM one. There are so obvious kinky chapters but all are done using terminology that is tasteful - it’s far less smutty than I assumed. I am captivated by their relationship and excited to read about their lives as I progress through the other books.
