I have been playing video games my entire life, own hundreds upon hundreds of titles from triple A to the most unique and bizarre indie games across multiple platforms. I’ve played just about every genre, game mechanic, setting, visited countless worlds and experienced many memorable stories. This game is fast becoming my favorite game EVER. My wife and I have been playing this ever since I watched a few videos and downloaded it for something to do on the weekend. I thought “hmm, that looks kinda cool” I was not expecting to be blown away like I have been. We are still not finished with it and that can only be a good thing. The story, the characters, the worlds, the mechanics, all of it is pure gold. I cannot emphasize enough just how good this game really and truly is. My wife is relatively new to video games and we’ve played our fair share of coop games. She is absolutely in awe of this amazing title, it’s better than most animated movies of the last decade or so. Every new world brings new and unique abilities and settings in which you really do have to work together to overcome the obstacles before you. Each and every one has been unique and incredibly fun. There have been so many “ohhh I see, that’s awesome!” Exclamations and too many times we have both expressed how this is “the best game ever, it is SO good!” It is incredibly beautiful, both in terms of the worlds you visit and the characters you play as and encounter. The story is just wonderful and the characters May and Cody are just extremely well written and performed. The designs are awe-inspiring and we have laughed and been emotionally moved many times. There is no shortage of fun to be had here, everything moves along at the perfect pace, keeping things fresh and dynamic. So many different game mechanics, both familiar and fresh pop up time and time again and there are even Easter eggs and nods to other legendary games thrown in. I have geeked out a few times telling my wife “oh this is so and so from so and so!” I got the game on sale on ps4 for $30 but would happily pay the regular $60 for such an amazing title. I am happy it includes a ps5 version because we will definitely be playing this again when we eventually get one. The abilities are awesome and seriously fun to play with. Away from the main action there are also countless other “set pieces” to interact with and the addition of the “mini game” challenges are always exciting to come across and add a little competition into an otherwise cooperative game. It is always worth fully exploring every new location for these extras. Many areas you can go off exploring and tell each other about cool things you find. All in all, if you are considering this game (which I assume you are if reading reviews) it is a no brainer, especially at the price they are asking for it. If playing with a friend, your significant other, or even I imagine, your kids (as other reviewers have mentioned) this game is just pure joy, wonder, amazement and just about the most fun I’ve ever had with a game in my 30 years on this planet. Something as fresh and unique, heartwarming and FUN as this doesn’t come around so often. As I stated at the beginning of this review, I have played hundreds and hundreds of games in my life, tons of different genres, loads of different themes and settings, mechanics etc etc. This game blew me away, after all these years, and I sincerely hope it does with you too! DO IT. BUY IT. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
