I found this movie very elegantly done. Coleman’s depiction of mental illness was spot on and her character, Hilary, finely drawn. This was true of Stephan as well. The racial tensions were looming from the beginning. That almost overshadowed the healing power of friendships and, of course, the movies.

Watched for 35 minutes. What a waste of time. Poorly written, poorly acted even by Elliot Gould.
Unlikable characters.

I just don’t have the patience for this. I cannot believe it received the Booker! Does my need for punctuation make me racist, anti feminist, or homophobic? I hoped to learn about the lives of women very different from myself instead, I found myself slogging though unrelated details and a disconnected narrative. Closed the book at about 1/3 through. More than enough for me.
