I loved this film. Very rarely are films so full of subtle content and storytelling, not dumbed down for a larger audience. I didn't expect such a masterpiece when I chose to watch it. The acting is stellar. I think many want the reasons for everything to be obvious, but I think the storyteller is hinting that the paganism is real, that what is happening is being guided by whatever, and many things are subtly suggested as real. *spoilers* Towards the end, when the protagonist is emotionally devasted and the group of women are sympathizing. I think they are psychologically linked at that point and sharing the pain. The impregnation scene in the barn is I think the same. The group is mentally linked and experiencing things as a unit. At the very end, the protagonist smiles in delight. I think this is her joining the community as the ritual was successful and purged their darkness. There are other hints throughout that the pagan concepts are real. It is never made obvious. The actors brilliantly allow us to realize this. 5 stars.
