SPOILER FREE:
Kidding is a great insight into a performer’s struggle. Similar to BoJack Horseman, the show focuses on the hardships of being known as a tv character while trying to keep your own identity, and deal with your own issues.
The show is well shot, the puppet scenes are creative, and the acting is generally well done. The original songs are great, as well as the soundtrack choices. The unique intro sequences are a small bit that really add to the tone of the show.
Jim Carrey truly takes the spotlight when it comes to the actors. He was the perfect choice for this role. His childlike movements and even facial expressions fit his character completely.
One downside of the show is the score. The score is fine, but some scenes would be more effective/emotional if they didn’t write music for them. It’s a bit overused for my taste.
The cinematography as well was well done, but the show could have been more daring with their choices. Not to say it isn’t good, but it could’ve been more adventurous!
I would’ve also liked to see this show get even darker than it did, but that’s just my personal taste.
Overall I’d give this show an 8/10, and I’d definitely recommend it! I also have to add that the second season is superior to the first season in every way in my opinion. Despite getting cancelled, the ending is very satisfying and gives a sense of closure, and is one of the best episodes.
