This book is the definition of average, neither good nor bad. It really had the potential to be intriguing but something was just wrong. What the author tried to convey did not land, making it seem like a flat regular story. I found it hard to imagine certain key scenes because there was not enough setting description, an example was during the end, the whole occurrence in the marble and stone palace. It all seemed vague (in terms of setting description).
Generally, the book does have a few nice scenes but most of them were ill-conveyed. There were character conversations but not enough setting description within them to back them up and spark your imagination. Let me not get started on the forced romance... or I will. There was no real connection between Zafira and Nasir. It felt like they fell in love cuz they were the main characters in the story, and that was just it, nothing else. Was looking forward to getting this book over with, honestly. Now, I'm not sure whether I should read book 2 or not.
