Subpar gameplay doesn't save the game from a terrible story

We all know Joel wasn't a saint, judging by his actions at the end of the first game, but the reason why fans are pissed off with the second game is because they tuned in to see the dynamic between Joel and Ellie, however, that was ruined at the start of the game. That ruined what fans wanted, which was a further exploration of Joel and Ellie's father-daughter relationship, and how Joel's choices at the end of the first game would affect that relationship. And the reason that relationship was ruined was because of a character no one cares about. Abby suddenly becomes one of the most important characters out of nowhere, and fans are supposed to accept that? After what she does to Joel, who literally saved her life? Of course fans are pissed off.
