I'll be writing my personal experience in this and how I feel about this game. This is about the Campaign, only.
-- Campaign --
PROS:
Story: The story is fantastic! It goes back to the roots of Halo: Combat Evolved, which it is a great! It humanizes the Master Chief, showing that he's still human under the armor, and the difference between the Master Chief and Fernando Esparza (aka Echo-216), a civilian contractor who fled to the Pelican during the attack of the Infinity. The Weapon, an A.I designed to imitate Cortana in Zeta Halo, she's a nice addition to the cast. The Banished are back from Halo Wars 2, a Brute-Mercenary faction who broke off from the Covenant and captured Zeta Halo and are led by Escharum, Atriox's mentor. The Harbinger who allied with the Banished, is apparently from another species, the Endless, who survived the firing of the Halo Array and were imprisoned by the Forerunners long before Halo: Combat Evolved took place.
Though I would wish that it would involve other characters from other Halo Games, such as the Arbiter, Lasky, Lord Hood, or Palmer, or Red Team, or the entire crew of the Spirit of Fire. Oh well, probably in DLCs then. Weird that Atriox isn't the main antagonist in this game, and we only seen him in two cutscenes (The beginning and the post-credit scene), but Escharum is enough for me.
Nevertheless, the story has it's own flaws, but it's great, I would go far to say it's up with the Original Trilogy, because it has the emotional connection, the conflicts, the nostalgia and the fun times with the characters, bring it's closure from what Halo 4 and Halo 5's story started.
Music: They did the music right, hats off to the music composers (Gareth Coker, love your music from Ori games, Alex Bhore, Curtis Schweitzer and Joel Corelitz). They brought back the main Halo Theme, which is very neat and nostalgic. The music can make you hyped up, in boss fights, or in open world. They nailed it right.
Gameplay: The gameplay is handled very neatly. In this campaign, you can hold up to 4 Spartan Abilities (Grapple Hook, The Threat Sensor, Drop Wall and Thruster). You can use the map and make a waypoint where you want to go (Like in Halo 3: ODST), kill a high value target, or side quests or the main mission. The radar is very long compared to the multiplayer, which is good
Open World: This is the first Halo Game to have an open-world, so that's neat.
Graphics and Visuals: This has better Graphics than it had in 2020, it was worth it that they delayed one year.
CONS:
Side quests: As much as I like to defeat other species, Grunts, Jackals, Elites, Brutes and such, I feel like they can be repetitive as much, like in some games. Of course, it's a minor issue of mine.
No Co-op: As a long time Halo Fan here, Co-op is a great addition to the Halo Games, though it's disappointing that it's delayed for 9 months, like imagine playing with your buddies in the campaign, fighting the Banished and exploring the Ring, it would definitely be fun, am I right? Really wished that it would have been released on day one.
Can't replay the missions: Please, let us replay the missions. We can't replay them back, especially in the first mission "Warship Gbraakon", because it's impossible to 100% it if you miss the Audio Logs or Skulls, meaning you can't obtain them anymore unless you have to start from the very beginning, which would be irritating.
-- Conclusion --
This is a return to form to the Original Trilogy, 343 did it right and I definitely recommend to play it. Though it has it own flaws, but I can’t be disappointed about it.
Score Rating: 4.5/5
