I remember watching the original black & white film based on the Shirley Jackson novel and being really scared even though you don’t really see anything, it’s all down to your imagination. I found this Netflix series just far too long winded !. The story drags on and loosely based on the characters in the book I felt I was constantly waiting for things to happen. 2 or 3 episodes would have been more than enough to give a more up to date version of this story.

Having never seen Dark I decided to watch this series after reading all the reviews praising the story, acting and production. All I can say is that I thought 1899 was complete nonsense !. After watching for almost 8 hours over a few evenings the story just goes nowhere. I thought it might make more sense the more I watched, but apart from numerous episodes where characters descend into trap doors in the floor and then appear again and again from port holes in different locations the story goes no where. Even by the very end it seems a pointless story and I asked myself why have I wasted 8 hours watching.
