I started reading the Breakers series at my mother's recommendation almost a decade ago. It was during a particularly messy point in my life where I felt uprooted and left adrift. The inner monologs of Walt and Raymond eerily mirroring my own. Later, in Meltdown, I met Nes; a young neet most likely on the spectrum with an abusive brother that gave me flashbacks to my own child and early adulthood. This book, this series, was a comfort to me. As a post apocalyptic story it's hopeful, asks the more interesting questions of its villainous forces, and evolves. The author then goes on to make a timeskipped series set after humans recover and expand into space. It and Rebel Stars was something that felt right for me, and it might feel right for you too.
