Saw this in 2011 when it first came out in NYC and was almost brought to tears watching it. Early humans, whose lives were clearly a constant struggle - to find shelter, gather food and keep warm; and to feel safe in a world occupied by cave bears, cave lions, woolly mammoths and so on. And yet throughout this life of endless danger and struggle, people found the time and had the absolute need to create art! What a beautiful thing to learn. I think this is what separates us from non-human animals more than anything else. Bravo Herzog!
