An engrossing, hilariously profane and anachronistic take on the Russian leader Catherine, โThe Greatโ somehow works perfectly and has somehow gotten better over its three seasons. The scripts are powerful poetry, the narrative is clear and exciting, and the acting is world-class all around. If you can buy that the Russian ruling class of the day were foul-mouthed, sex-crazed hedonists, and despite it all the titular Empress truly meant to do well for her country, this series rewards the disbelief-suspending journey.
