The movie portrays a bumbling democratic presidential administration that deceives the general public in an effort to divert attention from a catastrophic, global event that they chose to ignore when reported to them by credible sources. Rather than immediately addressing the impending doom with a logical solution, they instead opt for a long-shot, alternate mission that is based on possible political and financial gain rather than saving the earth and mankind for the greater good. It is so often amazing to me how movies so closely resemble reality.
