Ah yes. Pokemon. The biggest franchise in the world. Let's see if this game holds up to such a high title.
First, let's address the Copperajah in the room. The performance. It can get laggy, your camera frequently clips through walls or the ground, some Pokemon have ridiculously large hitboxes, people can walk through a battle, and your Pokemon can slide of cliffs midbattle. This doesn't bother me much, in fact I even think some of it makes my experience better for being funny, but keep it in mind.
Now, the plot. I won't spoil the plot, just my opinions on it. I think it is the best plot a Pokemon game has ever had. The character archs were truly heartwarming and I grew attached to almost everyone by the end. Except Clavell.
The gameplay is normal Pokemon gameplay in the battles. In the rest, it's pretty different. You have a ride Pokemon that covers traversal. You can send out Pokemon to chill and take pictures with, which is fun. The new Gimmick this time around is Terastalization. You're Pokemon can now crystalize and change type, my personal favorite gimmick of Pokemon.
Now for the world. It is open world and has nice landscapes and it generally looks more natural than any other Pokemon game. I don't know where else to include this, but Pokemon also have so much flavor to their behavior. They can be in trees, they can play together, they can sleep under trees, and so much more.
Finally, the designs. The designs are decent. We have Flamigo who is just a flamingo, and Dudunsparce, who I have a personal gripe against being a Dunsparce Fanboy, but we also have Skeledirge and Annihilape. These guys are amazing. This is a decent gen for designs. Some really good ones, and some garbage ones.
Overall, I loved this game. I am biased towards Pokemon, but I do say it is worth the full 60 bucks.
