Too many SciFi series rely on special effects, CGI, spectacular explosions and other gimmicks. The people in distress are simply like John Wick’s victims, nameless and dispatched. This series delves into the humanity of a select group of diverse humans. Greenland Movie similarly had us rooting for a particular family. My favorite is Golshifteh Farahani as a strong mother of two dealing with the unknown and a feckless husband is absolutely captivating in every scene. Incredibly talented. Shioli Kutsuna as a comms expert viscerally captures grief and determination. Also wonderful. There’s a compelling desert scene between an Afghan and US Soldier. They don’t understand each other but deeply communicate nonetheless. Three episodes in, I love the show. It’s not enough for humans to survive. We want THESE people to survive.
