FF14 is a very fun and entertaining game. I played WoW and SWTOR before this and I am really enjoying it. The leveling is a bit different from WoW as there is only one character for all jobs (classes). There is a main story quest line (MSQ) per character. So, if you switch jobs the MSQ level requirement does not. It can make leveling a bit of a pain at times. However, there are things one can do to offset it (food buffs, etc.)
The game itself is built for story line immersion and has several cut scenes for storytelling. To me, I tend to skip some of it because I am interested in leveling and getting all my abilities to play with.
The community, from my experience, is welcoming and willing to explain things. Unlike WoW and to a much lesser extent SWTOR, FF14 players seem much less toxic in their attitudes and behaviors. The game encourages teamwork and allowing players to play at their own speed.
The professions are unique and much more leveling intensive. It isn't like WoW where you buy common items, make "X" number of items, and get skill points. AT time it takes items made from other professions to level up and there is method to it. Success and skill points are not guaranteed. It is a bit overwhelming when coming over from other MMO's. But if you are big on professions, this game is for you.
Guild housing is nice and brings with it some decent perks.
