I entered the Dragon Ball universe through the original series, Dragon Ball, followed by the timeless classic, Dragon Ball Z. These series, with their blend of intense action and unexpected humor, captivated a generation. Dragon Ball Super seamlessly carried this torch, maintaining the grittiness of DBZ while preserving that signature comedic relief. It felt like a natural progression, a mature continuation of a beloved story.
However, Dragon Ball Daima, despite its undeniable visual appeal, felt like a departure from the expectations of the fanbase. The excessive noise, slapstick humor, and overly cheerful tone felt jarring and disconnected from the gravitas that has always underpinned the series. It seemed to prioritize childish exuberance over the nuanced storytelling and character development that fans have come to expect.
While I appreciate the effort and artistry evident in Daima's animation, I can only award it two stars. The visual spectacle, while impressive, couldn't compensate for the significant tonal shift that ultimately diminished its appeal to many long-time Dragon Ball fans.
