Despite the medias overwhelming positive outlook and beliefs on this film, I found it quite lack luster and poorly made in the story department specifically. The actors were all amazing and the atmosphere as well as audio design/music were great too. That’s about where the positives end for this movie though. The movie is tense, suspenseful, and eerie for the first 20-ish minutes in, then as soon as the movie “really starts” all of that goes away. Once the main character gets abducted and locked into the basement, it feels as if the rest of the plot points were thrown together last second. There are SO many moments in the movie that make you question things, dig deeper and search for the twist and try to solve what’s really happening- that just unfortunately mean nothing. So many things are thrown in with no true explanation or meaningful impact to the plot in any sense, which is unfortunate because otherwise this would’ve been a fantastic film. Another large issue personally for this movie is that the idea of abduction is horrifying, but that’s the only scary thing in this movie. Other from that it’s not a horror, just a mild thriller with a sweet and somewhat silly ending. Blum house is know for making you wriggle in your seat, but this one doesn’t do so. Unhappy to leave this review, but there needs to be some honesty posted.
