Brilliant read. Detailed as it happened account of a brutal and vicious conflict in appalling conditions. The few criticisms I have read of the book seem to be misleading because they don’t take account of what this is: an unleaded unrevised and unvarnished account noted down at the time. Feels so much more real than other books. God help us that we indulge in such madness
