I’ll preface this review by saying I did find this book enjoyable. I liked the author’s writing style and the descriptions of places and characters was cosy and inviting. It’s nice to read. However, the entire plot was just so unlikely. Coincidence after coincidence. And to use Daphne’s “second sight” as a way to fill in plot holes left me feeling very frustrated. She only had 2 visions in the entire book so it doesn’t seem like much of a gift at all. And a pretty unreliable gift at that. The book finished with more unanswered questions than it began with. I understand that this is a trilogy but I would have liked at least a bit of closure at the end and then to see some new mystery evolve in the second and third books. But no, it seems it’s going to take 3 books to answer the initial questions. I’m not sure I’ll bother.
