As a massive Godzilla fan, it was already a fait accompli that I would like this. But I assure you, this is a terrific movie regardless of whether or not Godzilla is in it. Acting is great, character development is incredibly effective, and the political messaging are all very well done. Yes, atomic bombs bad, giant radioactive lizard worse, etc. etc., but fact that the Japanese people, not their gov't, banded together to save themselves, after the government had asked them to die for no reason, is very powerful. Some of the most relatable acting I've seen this year, and perhaps ever in a Japanese move (I mostly watch Kaiju movies so I'm sure there's lots of good acting in Japanese cinema). Anyway, something for everyone. See it on a big screen if you can.
