I see a ton of reviews complaining about a confusing story, but in reality you have to be pretty blind to not understand this movie. It could have done a better job at explaining some of the lore behind the mythology yet even with lacking context the points and mythology was very clear unless you lack all knowledge of Vikings and their history. The story was in all honesty pretty basic and I’ve felt like I’ve heard this tale of revenge multiple times before; but I don’t feel as though it takes away from the execution of feeling behind it. Cinematically was one of the best films I’ve seen in a while, plenty of action spread in at what felt like the perfect moments. When it comes to character development: I don’t want every movie I watch to have the same fairly tale ending of growth. Some people simply do not evolve, most certainly at this period of time and this religion, brutality and honesty about how it actually would have gone in the the real world. Simply put a very good movie. Acting was wonderful, my only complaint is that I don’t get 10 hour long episode to dig deeper into lore and history. But I have that complaint with everything I enjoy.
