I tried to watch this with an open mind, but the writers and producers of this movie seem very lazy and ruined it. I wish I could take those 90 minutes back. I’m gonna split up everything into segments and give my honest opinion on it. Plot: They overhyped the plot in the trailers and made it seem like everything would add up, when in reality, literally nothing made sense! There was no climax, and there was so much build up to the story just for all of it to come crashing down because of the weak ending; it felt very rushed. Music: I’m gonna be a little honest here, a few songs are catchy, I have to admit. However, SO many of the musical numbers are out of place and don’t always make sense. I also kind of feel like the writers just shoved songs into certain scenes and called it a day so the movie could seem longer than it is. It’s like 80% of the movie is just a bunch of random musical numbers. Also, may I add that Ella and Chloe’s song in particular did NOT send out a good message? It’s basically saying to just follow what your heart desires even if it’s not right. Like, what? Character development: It’s just awful, ESPECIALLY when it comes to Bridget. I seriously am struggling to comprehend how an air-headed, pinky pie can go from handing out cupcakes to cutting off heads because of a “prank”. How can someone completely shift their personality AND hold a grudge against it for THAT long? It’s dumb, and unrealistic. Further opinions about it: I seriously stand by the thought that they should’ve just ended it at Descendants 3. It was literally a perfect ending to the Descendants franchise. Also, if you KNOW that most of the original cast will refuse to reprise their roles, it’s honestly best to scrap the project. One more thing, I’m SUPER frustrated over the fact that they kept hyping up the school prom for half of the movie, to just never show it. It’s super disappointing. Anyways, if you liked it, great. But you can’t convince me to watch it again, because based on my statements, I clearly didn’t like it. This felt like a spin off of Descendants rather than a 4th movie of the franchise since it had NOTHING to do with the story of Descendants. I rate it a 3/10. Not terrible, but not good.
