I cannot fully explain why, but this movie always deeply affects me when I watch it (in a good way, when a movie really grabs hold of you) and it is one of my very favorite M. Night’s films. My advice to new viewers is to suspend your sense of logic and natural urge to make sense of everything in a “traditional” manner. This movie is a fantasy, a fairy tale, so your mind must be in a like frame. The tale is merely the backdrop to the actual characters (each of whom seem to have been cast and portrayed perfectly by the actors playing them) and how each of them are average, everyday people whose seemingly unimportant, unexceptional daily actions In life are, in fact, special; making them special & unique in their own way. This movie brilliantly, yet subtly, points out that everyone is important and can make a difference in the lives of others. It doesn’t have to be splashed across the news or the internet to warrant grand importance. The “little” things matter too...perhaps more so than we give them credit for. Great, feel good movie about people. Enjoy the originality of the tale but watch It for the characters and their authenticity.
