This series makes about as much sense as cavemen on bicycles. A better idea might have been to have it set on a planet other than earth so earthly logic would have to be suspended. Two hundred years of Kentucky inbreeding here has everyone on the mountain unable to read, driving ATVs like they invented them and almost everyone has the same last name.
