An outstanding piece of cinematographic magic. Encapsulated and interwoven by Van Morrison's emotive and evocative sound track. A story told through a boy's shared experience of his and his family's life during a period of unsettled religious differences, on the streets of Belfast.
It makes no difference if you are a 'Left Footer' or 'Right Footer' or any one of the hundreds of religions out there. This film can be enjoyed by all.
The cast is a formidable one.
The ethereal beauty and quality of Ma, Caitriona Balfe is unsurpassed.
Jamie Dornan as Pa, has an abundance of screen presence, laid bare on his face in every scene. Who knew that man could sing!
Dame Judy Dench's role as Granny is going to be one of her most memorable to date.
Pop played by the formidable Ciaran Hinds handles the genie's of humour, heartbreak and humility with expert self depreciating dexterity.
The star of the film is the gifted Jude Hill. The natural naivety and ease amongst such a stellar cast, aided by his comedic timing and his obvious ease infront of the camera is truly astonishing.
I do believe that this film is and award winner.
