Spoilers*** Gillian Flynn is so preoccupied with the shock and awe factor that she forgot to write a good story. Good stories have good and believable character development. Flynn wrote main characters into the story just to be killed. The obvious flaw with this tactic is that it was unnecessary and worse yet it was not believable, which comes in direct conflict of her intensions of “making things gritty and dirty and nasty in a very realistic way,”. She did make things gritty and nasty, but after showing us two Anton Chigurh like goons brutally murder dozens of innocent men, women and children in just the first 2 episodes, killing the best main character was just bad writing or lazy writing or both. I could go on and on. But killing Sam in the second episode is the reason your show got cancelled. Unfortunately, just another example of a show with great potential, but was ultimately thwarted by the personal fantasies of the creator Flynn.
