Alright so buckle up. This is gonna be a long one.
TL;DR Version: A splendid yet buggy and unfinished game that has been absolutely disrupted due to the fact that hating on it has become a meme. I played it on PC. (Potentially) Incredible gameplay, profound story and immersive exploration.
I disliked the marketing campaign CDPR did and I do thoroughly maintain that they need a change in their business model and marketing mix. Also, potentially a huge change in the leadership structure of the brand. They are acting like much hated (and with good reason) money-hungry companies such as Activision or EA. Also, I think they handled Trans representation wrong, and could (should actually, since it is still fixable) make it a much less offensive/less insensitive experience. And that is crucial, especially when the game is being unintentionally (or not) malicious towards a group of people.
I pre-ordered the game 3 days before its release and my expectations were quite generous. I have been waiting for this game for 2 years now, although ultimately I didn't expect it to, I don't know, resurrect my grandmother or be the "absolute gem, second only to Dark Souls 3 or Super Mario 64".
When I fired it up, I was stunned. Incredible aesthetic choices, a vibrant yet moody vibe. I loved the overall "feel" the game had. I never experienced something like it before.
Then, I started seeing trees in places where they shouldn't be.
I knew it would be a buggy mess. Every single game of its kind is, except for probably RDR, the GTA series and Breath of the Wild.
I thoroughly enjoyed the game. I remained unphased by the extreme criticism over the console versions, since I played it on PC.
Hath I played the console version of the game this review would probably be A LOT different.
Nevertheless, this particular "tree" issue was fixed immediately when I installed the Nvidia drivers (I bet you knew that and thought I didn't do my research or actually play it before I made the review but, hear me out) -- some other things didn't, however.
Jackie literally vanishing from plain sight and reappearing, cars floating and now saves being corrupted?
This game is in terrible need of plenty, plenty fixes.
However, this didn't ruin my experience. Bugs, although moderately frequent, were mostly comical and not game breaking.
The game has an astounding, yet imbalanced, arsenal of choices when it comes to weaponry, approaches on missions and dialogue.
This enriches the gameplay experience of the game and gives you an overall great time. That would be an 8/10.
My only complaint on that department is that choices you make in dialogue seldomly actually matter and, being a tabletop RPG fan myself, that kinda turned me off.
Lore/Story wise the game is really good.
If Dark Souls gets a 9.5/10, Cyberpunk gets an 8.7.
Audios/Visuals are, quite frankly, godlike. Astounding work there -- it looks like CDPR actually went and gave a damn about who they wished to star and how. That's a solid 9/10.
I believe that this game has a lot of potential that, currently, is being dissected and completely eaten away by the horrors of game journalism.
This concludes my review.
