(Pilot) Year of the Rabbit for Asian American actors! Talent plus luck equals opportunities in Hollywood. Kudos to casting directors Claire Koonce and Charlene Lee for shoving all this lightening into one bottle! The dialogue pops off the screen giving credence to the fence we first gen Americans have to tip toe across between our immigrant parents and our American dreams. Steve Yeun turns in a majestic charismatic performance as a contractor struggling to get ahead in cray cray Los Angeles. Ali proving once again if you can master comedy like Meryl Streep then drama is putty in your hand. They’re like James Dean and Frances Farmer on fire! Joseph Lee makes all viewers swoon at first but makes us wonder what if we were just a little kinder towards each other? David Choe’s performance as an ex-con makes the whole writer’s story arc believable and palatable. I could go on singing praises of cinematography and costumes and directing & editing (bomb car chase scene) but I must return to episode 2 of these rich in charisma performers! *****
