I hated the main two characters. I’d never want to hang out with them, and I found little else in the book to relate to. The end was tragic and silly. Two characters that apparently can only be “totally transparent” with each other are incapable for years, and perhaps indefinitely, of ever talking about or admitting the one most important thing to either of them? They seem absurdly obtuse for all their “intellectualism.” Still, Sally writes about them with a real, and gripping empathy that made me want to see how the thing is resolved. Sadly, and totally unnecessarily, not well.
