Ahhh…I finished it…finally finished Love Like The Galaxy, all 56 episodes and 2 seasons of it. I finished around 4am this morning and I dragged my emotional feet back to bed where I thought of a tall, dark haired general who said, “You are the brightest star in my eyes.” I’m still recovering from his deep, broken spirit and the unconditional love he gifted to the one woman who could walk beside him in life. Tell me, ladies, this is what pulls our heart strings deep and never lets go.
Oh my General…to have you protect me with a steady sword and an iron fist…
Ok, ok, ok…onward to the review of the film. Like I mentioned, it is 2 seasons with a total of 56 episodes. A lot of my friends on social media have mentioned to me to watch and before my vacation from work, I was just too busy to catch it. Now with more than a month off, I am finding myself indulging in all drama series until the morning hours.
Be prepared for a slow burn in the beginning. There are many who are captivated from the start but for me, it was a bit of nodding off and wondering when it was going to pick up. Spoiler alert is that they do not meet until episode 6, so it’s a few episodes of different events unfolding. But…YOU HAVE TO WATCH that in order to understand what comes in the story. If you skip out on it, you will ask yourself, “Wait…how did this happen?” So even if you find that skip button seductive, JUST BE PATIENT AND WATCH.
This series is based on the book Xing Han Can Lan, Xing Shen Zhi Zai written by Guan Xin Ze Luan and can be watched on Viki. It stars Wu Lei and Zhao Lusi. I was recommended to watch this but I wanted to watch this after I caught Zhao Lusi in Who Rules The World with Yang Yang and I fell in love with her witty and strong female lead role. And this one is another one that she’s incredible in. The story revolves around the strong and diligent Cheng Shaoshang and the emperor’s adopted son Ling Buyi. Shaoshang was left behind for her grandmother’s care when her parents left to go to war and was neglected and raised with little loving, which in return, forced her to be her own rainbow and make her own decisions. She stood fast on her own ground and did things her way to survive. She’s not the woman most would present in royal court because she lacks etiquette and can’t sprout poetic words of life. Ling Buyi is a tall, dark haired general with a cold glare and the most eligible bachelor around. When he walks in, everyone who has a heartbeat stops to stare and enemies begin talking without much pressuring. The emperor has been asking him to get married and he only states, “The woman I choose to marry is someone I fall in love with at first sight. Only she will walk beside me on this earth.” And during the lantern festival, high above in the towers, where the lanterns lit up the darkened skies like stars, Ling Buyi glances down and among the crowd, his eyes fall upon Shaoshang, running through the streets with her gentle like face and captivating smile. And he…falls in love. Although many criticized him for choosing such a wife like her, Ling Buyi never goes against his words and continues to protect his bride-to-be in every single situation that occurs if it threatens her well-being. But deep inside his heart, he has a secret that could threaten the very love he has felt for Shaoshang and although he went blindly into the battle knowing he was going to abandon her behind, he does so to fulfill a promise to take revenge on a massacre that led him to be the one last sole male heir to his lineage.
