So many reviews equate this book to man hating but it is hating the society that put men at the top and women at the bottom. First the writer has a multicultural perspective and that is very obvious in how they write. The character of Zetian is a complex one. She is not perfect. Always doing the right thing like so many other female leads. She is a flawed character and that's great. It is not the authors job to make a character that you like, it is to tell a story. Zetian is quick to judge, rude, and prideful but the author clearly shows how she came to be this way and how the change in her life has caused her to grow. Considering this is just book one I imagine Zetian and the other characters will continue to grow. I can't wait for the next book.
