I saw this on Broadway with Chester Morris, Patricia O'Neill and Martin Sheen.Brilliant. The movie adds an atmosphere of foggy gloom in a blue collar neighborhood. The scene when Patricia O'Neil is on an empty bus sitting alone perfectly captures her desolation as the result of a loveless marriage to an alcoholic while pretending everything is Roses (for the benefit of her son returning from the military). Jack Albertson won the Oscar for best actor that year.
