I flew fighters in the Air Force until I retired. I was shot down and had to eject from my aircraft which crashed soon after. I ejected at negative 2.5 Gs and 550 IAS/700 MPH. The pilot who ejected from the F-35 was surely, through his/her training thought the aircraft was unrecoverable and thus they ejected to save their life. Screw the price of the aircraft! Their life was worth it! Timing is a very interesting issue. From the time my aircraft exploded until I ejected was less than 10 seconds. A pilots life is worth so much more than the price of an airplane. Shame on y'all.
