I am very disappointed with this show. The acting is subpar, and there are so many negative stereotypes reinforced through this show which makes it even harder to watch. Topics such as single parenthood, black people attending therapy, religion and spirituality, and today’s state of policing should have been treated better with more nuanced conversations. But unfortunately the writing is so subpar that it is hard to understand what point they are trying to get across. On top of all of this, the amount of cringeworthy scenes greatly outnumber the amount of funny ones. I wish we can get more shows with people of color that aren’t trying to recreate sitcoms from the 90s-00’s (and doing a horrible job at it). There are so many more stories to tell; stories that are relatable to people here in 2021 and beyond. Rehashing tired, old stereotypes for cheap laughs needs to be a thing of the past.
