Exceedingly detailed and verbose. To give and example, I’ll highlight one part that really struck me as unnecessarily wordy: “I brought my ear close to the inmate's lips, so close that I could feel his fetid, warm breath on my skin. I feared he might bite me, but unexpectedly he proceeded to dispense a wind of formidable forcefulness.”
Needless to say if you’re not the biggest fan of wordy, floury language as I am not, you might struggle to read this book without rolling your eyes. I can definitely see why people love this book - if verbosity and extreme detail is your thing, this is the book for you. But in my opinion, the story is great, but I can’t help but feel that the same could’ve been conveyed in 200 fewer pages.
