I’ve enjoyed Elin Hilderbrand’s writing - “Summer of ‘69” is my favorite - but “The Five-Star Weekend” I wanted to actually stop reading. The “woke factor” was too pervasive and so predictable, as is common in publishing today. It seems every book has a “sensitivity reader” during the editing process that only exacerbates the mandated DEI Rules of Publishing.
Of course Dru-Ann is Black and successful, Gigi “Ling” (you guessed it), “fabulous” as a mistress, single, childless, BFF with a gay couple, and a commercial pilot of all things, while the two White friends are working class (Tatum), and an insecure, babbling, pathetic woman (Brooke) married to a MeToo toxic straight white male. I literally LOLed when Hollis told Gigi about her first love to which Gigi replied “tell me about him…or her?”
Save your time and money, TFSW will likely become a Netflix movie as it fits in perfectly with its liberal, woke, DEI-filled propaganda.
