One of Heston's better roles, his realistic portrayal of The Cid is much better than the over wrought, stilted portrayal of Moses in The Ten Commandments (however, all of the blame for that goes to C.B. DeMille, IMO). He and Sophia Loren create intense and memorable chemistry onscreen.
