Riveting—-couldn’t stop reading. I am wondering if this was based on actual events. The plot: a mediocre physician in the late 1800s is called to work in the Women’s Insane Asylum in Trenton, New Jersey. He provides medical and surgical care to the women. He experiments on them. All this is described in grizzly detail. The women are so helpless: they have to submit. This author is skilled, so we see this all from his perspective and later from his son’s and some of the women.
