After watching this movie last night, I was stunned at the emotion and artistry put into the production of this film. Normally I don't review movies, but after reading the negative comments I felt it important to show my appreciation of one of the most unique films I've seen this year.
Many people seem to think that portraying the depressing aspects of Marylin Monroe's life does her an injustice. I think exactly the opposite, and clearly those giving this film one star didn't pay very close attention to its message. So much of her life was glitzed up for the cameras that no one really knew her true identity, the Norma Jean inside Marylin Monroe, and this movie attempts to reveal that vulnerable part of her instead of covering it up with more gloss. No, she wasn't a perfect person. Most people aren't. Ignoring that fact only furthers the lie that fame makes a person invincible and that mental health is a made up crisis that affects only the hobo on the street corner.
I don't recommend watching this with a child, but I believe it sends a powerful statement to anyone able to stand nudity and some sex scenes. But for those who want to shield themselves from the discomfort and pain of the real world, stick to Space Jam.
