A great semi-country indie album that explores themes of loss, jealousy, and heartbreak as well as how we choose to deal with these feelings and move on. Expert guitars and catchy tunes help this new style of album from Peach Pit sound as familiar as it does fresh. Chris Vanderkooy (as always) impresses with his unbelievable skill in this new genre for Peach Pit as does as Neil Smith's melancholy vocals contrasted by the slow plucky acoustic tunes with Pascuzzi and Wilton backing him. This album fits the brand of Peach Pit's past endeavours but favours a more mournful sound in lieu of the stronger rock styles of past works. Stand out tracks to me are "Everything About You" and "Give Up Baby Go", the latter of which accomplishes best the fusion of country honk with alternative groove. Most lyrics within are a bit more personal than before, adding to the sadder and darker tone that the instrumentals create. In some cases the sad vocals are complimented by some serious groove, somewhat emphasizing the sadness of the lyrics. Give it a listen if you love the band or just alternative tunes. This is bound to be a classic album among these guys' projects. From 2 to 3 is 5 stars for me. Will also be attending these guys live in MTL can't wait to hear this stuff live!
