Spoiler alerts below!
Okay, post COVID I am super happy to see any film that isn’t men in spandex in the newest reboot of a stale marvel or DC film…however, this was definitely meh’. Did they not look at the ‘dinosaurs’ when they were looking at the final cut? Seriously, they were so out of proportion, it was funny. Baby and momma Dino together? Um…let’s look at that scene again, they were done by two separate animators in different years…
Okay, let’s look at story. Yes, it’s trendy to ‘bring back the old’ but in this case, Sam Neill? He looks great, but how did he lose the ability to do the American accent? Goldblum is great, maybe the only anchor in the movie…give me more Goldblum!!! Laura Dern did a fine job too.
But wait? Are the Dinos good or bad? They are wonderful pets that are easily controlled…and they turn on you and eat your babies too? Hey, let’s throw in a non-sensical and never returned to pseudo-Monsanto reference ‘of course the giant locusts aren’t eating the [monsanto] crops…ugh…what is this movie? Is it anti-corporation? Anti-greed? Enter BD Wong…ugh..he is happy to help…and then cries? Then is redeemed? No.
I think we need to discuss the homages to Spielberg…the fedora retrieval, the ‘why did it have to be bugs(?)’, the vests? Okay, I get it, please stop hitting me in the head, I promise I understand that Trevorrow is a new director and wants to please the EP Spielberg, but I’m done.
So Chris Pratt…I LOVE CP from his P and R days…but really he is dialling it in here. That could be because there are SIX leads?‽. I hope CP enjoyed the pay check, because he DID NOT enjoy the filming of this, clearly.
I was lost by the young girl story, I didn’t know who she was and why she now has these ‘parents’.
It’s a mess. Honestly, they thought they could ‘wrap it up’ by bringing almost everyone back…but I didn’t care for anyone except Goldblum, he was the only one that was the same.
See it for 2 hours of getting out of the house. Don’t expect much!
