Just finished Season 1. Overall we liked it and the last episode of S1 was great. We liked the slow pace, kinda like peeling back layers of an onion, with each episode exposing more details. Jeff Daniels is superb as the aging, disillusioned, decent police chief. That said, we could have done without the gratuitous gay sex scenes. It was uncomfortable to watch and didnt add anything to the storyline. It would be so refreshing to watch a show just once without gratuitous sex scenes both straight and gay. It doesnt add anything.

Anyone giving this movie more than 1 star must be brain dead. It is overly long with a completely unsatisfactory and ridiculous ending. The movie showed promise but the plot (if you can call it that) built very slowly with no real answers to any of the ridiculous situations, i.e. why are hundreds of deer in the woods silently staring at two women who are then so terrified that they scream like banshees for five minutes until the deer leave? Makes no sense. The son gets bit by a tick (presumably a radioactive one) the day before and then looses several of his teeth the next day. WHAT?? Hundreds of white Teslas suddenly drive down the bighway and crash into each other. Again, what nonsense. Two airplanes crashing in the same spot with the homeowner barely getting a scratch. The daughter Ruth sitting at the dining room table at a stranger's house and eating junk food...? The black homeowner's daughter being a racist know-it-all and rude. Ethan hawke as Clay playing a hapless dumb husband to Julia Roberts' over-the-top Amanda. They have no chemistry. Kevin Bacon's character is not believable as he comes out of his house pointing a shotgun at his neighbor who seeks help. They know each other very well and he puts a gun in his face? This movie had all the stereotypes in it: successful white couple with kids, black teen daughter with an attitude problem and a hatred of white people, goold ole Boy white neighbor with shotgun and conspiracy theories about America's enemies and on and on. The ending left us shaking our heads at how nonsensical and anti-climactic it was. Didn't know until I read the reviews that the Obamas were the producers which now makes sense out of the dumb stereotypes depicted. Thoroughly bad acting and thoroughly bad movie. Dont waste your time on this waste of a movie.

Wonderful and inspiring movie with lots of humor too. Will probably watch it again. Kelsey Grammar was great.
