Mentors are there to guide and encourage, as well as being able to work with their team’s strengths/weaknesses. I’m a little disappointed in Allison’s guidance as a mentor. In episode one (Kitchen Renovation) Allison encouraged her team to move the kitchen. WHY? She says for a nice view of the beach, but they got rid of large windows then added one small window. I don’t understand. I wish Brandon & Teresa left the kitchen in its original location. They could have added a Beverage Station (getting rid of the windows facing their neighbor), French Doors for an indoor/outdoor experience (getting rid of the windows next to the front door), Smaller Island (making space for a 4 seat dinning room table), and Nice Appliances/Hood Vent. Brandon & Teresa would have been able to manage the time and would have spent less $$$ (saving approx. $13 thousand). Allison also wanted her team to move the HVAC system costing $11 thousand. Who does that! Her team’s budget was already “in the red” from the previous week (the kitchen). The directors or creators should have had different budgets for each house. There’s no way when you have houses of varying square footage each team’s budget should have been the same. Terrible!!! I’m disappointed with the directors’ decision to have Bryan and Sarah Beaumler judge Battle on the Beach. I hear a lot of “I”, “my liking”, “ I love when”, etc…in the judge’s conversation instead of discussions about why a team did or didn’t do spaces based on the 3 rules. To me, the Beaumler’s judged like they were mentors. There should be different judges for each space. Let me be honest, I would rather they not judge! Why? When they were on Rock the Block and Rock the Block Redemption they made design decisions, which resulted in them losing. They are great at what they do-Sarah’s exceptional eye for design and Bryan’s excellent craftsmanship, both very talented. I really enjoyed the way Jonathan Scott judged one episode of Rock the Block. He stated what would bring value, what was done well, and what could have been done differently. Great judge!
Ty and Taniya did a pretty good job guiding their team. Thank you for being a good mentors. Kristin and Chyenne worked well together and had good ideas. Sean and Sam did extremely well considering they flipped one house prior to the show. Brandon and Teresa worked well together, had great ideas, and are good at building (carpentry), but their time management skills and budging hurt them. What happened on episode 3 (the living space) when the team walks to claim the $300. That was omitted. Another bad move. If you are going to show other teams receiving the cash winnings show all teams…that left me with a bad feeling. As a result, I thought I’d write a review.
