I am no history buff, but this is not my understanding of the subject.
This movie portrays Napoleon as a brutal, mad, lucky and average army commander that risked his men carelessly in battle. He then overthrows a government, names himself emperor to the dismay of his country.
Oh and by they way he was bad in the sack, as good measure, and the love of his life was an absolute slag.
Seems like the Hollywood writers are rusty after their strike and perhaps a bit lazy?
Not sure why I watched this, why anyone invested in the production and completely puzzled what point they were trying to make!
