This movie really left me wanting... When I see an Eggers movie, I go see it because I know I'm going to become immersed in the realism of the movie, and because it's going to be unique, different, memorable, weird. For the first time seeing an Eggers film, I was *not* immersed. Instead I found myself feeling like I was watching people run around in costumes doing not very interesting things. Yes, I know people in movies wear costumes, etc. But in other Eggers films, I was so immersed, everything felt real. This felt like a production, a stage production (?), where the costumes are basic and everything is kinda amateurish. I really wanted to enjoy this movie, and I didn't. Hope his next effort is a return to form.
