It’s rubbish. Everything about it is awful. The monotonic delivery of Freddie Highmore’s lines is offputting enough but when you combine it with the awful, awful script it’s unwatchable. Particularly because I’ve worked in the medical field for many years and, although I can often look past glaringly inaccurate scenarios, this takes the cake. If the character speaks in such a way, he is clearly significantly impaired with autism. Medicine is much more than simply sitting exams and having an ability to remember facts. A significant amount of medicine is spent interacting with people and being able to read non-verbal cues. There is no way.....NO WAY.....someone as impacted with autism as this character could have made it through medical school regardless of how well he did in the exams. There may be doctors working with very mild autistic traits but it’s completely unrealistic to think that this character would ever be in the position he’s in. Freddie Highmore seriously needs some acting lessons, the writers need to go back to remedial script writing 101 and networks need to start putting on some decent dramas (which clearly hasn’t happened in many years if the popularity of this show indicates what viewers perceive as ‘good’).
